Since i had several sheets of 6mm depron sitting in my basement, I decided to try to make a foam plane. I spent some time in the Scratchbuilt section of RCGroups (http://www.rcgroups.com/foamies-scratchbuilt-428/) and decided to try to build the Prime8.
I would like it to turn out something like this:
I am using plans from:
Build guide: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16650507&postcount=487
- Cut out the main wing area
- Glued the spars
Decided to use 4mm flat CF, and slot the wing fully through. Used foam safe CA, not sure how clever that is.
In hindsight, I made the slots too "wide", the glue does not expand, and does not form a full seal on both sides of the CF everywhere.
For next attempt I should try a CF tube or rod, and "router" a slot for it using a Dremel
- Cut out some more parts
- Did a little more cutting and fitting
- Glued main fuselage sides and vertical stabilizers. The angled vert-stabs, make it so that Aileron full travel is not possible, need to modify ailerons.
- Mounted and sanded Ailerons
- Started on servo pods
- Glued wingtips in place
- Sanded vert stabs
Glued fuselage, added canopy and started sanding
More Sanding, colored the canopy, started taping
Glued in the magnet for the canopy, added colored tape
Moved servo horns to upside to prevent servo damage in case of crash ( #179)
Motor, ESC, Battery and Rx arrived today!
Fitted the motor, ESC and Rx. Need to buy JST connectors for the ESC
Added JST connector and fitted battery. Needed some trick to keep servo's in place, so "extended" the servo pods to hold them.
Ready for maiden!!
