Can not use Vario normal precision.

Added by Georg Roth about 3 years ago

Dear all.

I really like the stuff from Frsky but this one drives me crazy.
I have

Everything works but I have tried to connect the Vario to the receiver. I receive on the Android Dashboard data but the data is absolutely wrong. I did a few tests with the elevator from floor 33 to floor 3 and the displayed figures are definitely wrong. When I was out flying last time the Vario even showed minus figures. Additionally the LED keeps flashing/blinking. There must be something wrong.

But I really do not know what I did wrong.

I have connected the yellow wire to Rx and the brown wire to A2 as shown in the Vario manual. In the dashboard I source the data from AD2 but it displays wired things, which can not be right.

Any help??

Thanks a lot.
Georg

I am abit confused? The vario is never connected to AD2 to my knowledge. The vario's im aware of is using the hub protocol. This means that in the app you need to source Hub:altitude rather than AD2.

Could you link me the documentation for the vario? so i'm sure i'm looking at the same one?

Hi Espen

Many thanks for your time! Much appreciated.

http://www.frsky-rc.com/download/view.php?sort=&down=100&file=Manual-Variometer%20Sensor or http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uploads/813868886X25224X1.pdf

These manuals show that both leads need to be connected to the receiver. It also says ""Capable of connecting directly to the telemetry receivers without the sensor hub". On the dashboard I have selectd AD2 as there was nothing indicating the Serial channel Tx/Rx.

And here you would find how I have set up the dashboard: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1471122&page=230

Thanks for your feedback!

Ah, now I remember more:)

The one hooked to AD is vertical speed, not altitude. the conversion is funky, but mentioned in the the manual.
To get altitude, you need to enable the 'Hub: xxxx' sources, you need to open the model configuration, and choose the Hub type. You should now have additional sources.

I hope this helps

Hey!!!!!!!! That's great! I did not know how to add these channels. That seems to be the solution. Many, many thanks! I will try it over the week-end.

This means that this littel vario thingy delivers altitude and speed? That would be awesome!

Maybe one last question:
1) How gets the altitude measured? In "m"?
2) How gets the speed measured? In km/h?

Many thanks Espen!

I don't have the manual for the protocol here, but I believe the altitude is in meters. The vertical speed (from the analog input) is not documented, though I would believe it to be in m/s.

I seem to remember that there is also an undocumented digital channel for vertical speed. (Hub: vertical speed)

I believe the reason they added the analog capability for vertical speed, was to allow the usage of the module alarms to act as a vario, with alarms when going up and down
